Saxophonist Yiannis Kassetas, a profound jazz composer coming from Greece on his new album “Far”. Out on LP, CD & streaming/download.

The single “The Armenian” that preceded the release of the album “Far” gave us a first taste of Yannis Kassetas’ seventh album, which comes two years after the artistically and commercially successful “Lucid Dream”.
However, “The Armenian” great as it might be, could not give the full picture of the whole album which now reveals itself; an album of versatile variety, ripe and snappy, with wise economy in its plot and finally… plain exciting!
Seven compositions by the leading musician of the Greek Jazz scene, inspired by the impressionism of Claude Debussy, the idiosyncratic oriental jazz of Tigran Hamasyan and the contemporary jazz of New York. But always with Kassetas’ personal touch, characterized by his ability to create images and even stories through his music. It is no coincidence that the great American saxophonist Craig Handy has described Yiannis Kassetas as “the jazz Ennio Morricone of Greece”.
Yiannis Kassetas, after the creative peaks he has reached with his series of albums “Northern Lights” (2017, Puzzlemusik), “Lucid Dream” (2023, Puzzlemusik) and now “Far”, seems to have evolved into perhaps the most important jazz composer of his generation.
The album cover is a work by Iphigenia Liangi, specially designed for the occasion.
The album features an stellar cast of leading musicians of the Greek Jazz scene which is a somehow hidden gem waiting to be discovered: Costis Christodoulou: piano,
Dimitris Papadopoulos: trumpet, Grigoris Theodoridis: bass, Dimitris Klonis: drums and Yiannis Kassetas on tenor & baritone sax.
