George Kontrafouris Trio – The Passing
George Kontrafouris has always been an active, open-minded musician, collaborating with a variety of different artists from around the world. His artistic output has included jazz music, blues, Greek music, poetry, as well as experimentation. In this brand new album he is exploring the piano as a means of retrospection of his musical memories, in the context of a jazz piano trio.
This is the first appearance on record of this particular Kontrafouris trio with two outstanding – New York based – young musicians, Kimon Karoutzos on bass and Jason Wastor on drums. Kimon is a student of the legendary Ron Carter and Jason is a student of the Jazz master Kenny Washington.
The tracklist includes 7 tracks, 5 of them being new Kontrafouris’ compositions. The two remaining tracks are “Aeoliana” which is a composition of Markos Alexiou who was a pioneering jazz pianist in Greece, and also an important composer and educator, and “Hammock (Αιώρα)” which is an early age composition of the highly acclaimed vocalist Savina Yiannatou.
1st live presentation of the “The Passing” album at the legendary Birdland in New York, USA at February 2, 2020.
