George Kontrafouris – Haunted Poems

“Haunted Poems” is the first Kontrafouris’ piano album in almost ten years, following his highly acclaimed “The Storyteller” (April, 2007, Puzzlemusik). In the meantime Kontrafouris devoted himself to the hammond organ and his Baby Trio project (for more on Baby Trio see link: www.jazzonline.gr/en/musicians/ite…2-baby-trio.html)
Over the last two years or so he started performing live on the piano quite regularly so it is no suprsise that a new piano album sees the light of day.
The suprise is that half of the tracks on “Haunted Poems” feature poems that Kontrafouris wrote at an early age and that only know feels the need to share with us.
The collaborating musicians on the project are stellar: Alkinoos Ioannidis recites the poems, New York based Petros Klampanis is on contrabass, Alex Drakos Ktistakis is on drums and Angelos Polychronou on percussion. Kontrafouris plays the piano, rhodes and keybords.
“Haunted Poems” was recorded at Sierra Studios on the 21st and 22nd of January, 2016 by George Kariotis. Alkinoos Ioannidis was recorded by Vasilis Drougkas on Sept. 20, 2016 at Runners Studio.
